Brand Identity & Packaging Design

Brewing Black Tea Co. is a culturally inspired tea brand celebrating African and African diasporan tea traditions. The brand was created to bring together thoughtful sourcing, storytelling, and bold visual identity in a modern tea experience.

Jairosi Graphic Design developed the brand identity, packaging system, and visual language for the company’s launch collection.

The Challenge

The goal was to create a brand that felt:

  • Rooted in culture and storytelling

  • Modern and retail-ready

  • Visually distinctive on the shelf

  • Flexible enough to accommodate multiple tea collections and SKUs

The brand needed to appeal to a wide audience while honoring the cultural inspiration behind the teas.

The design approach focused on creating a visual identity that balanced cultural inspiration with contemporary clarity.

The result is a brand that feels expressive, vibrant, and intentional.


Brand Identity

The brand identity was built around themes of tradition, connection, and cultural storytelling. The logo denotes the common “comedy and tragedy” masks in the shape of teabags, illustrating the variety of human expression through tea.

Key elements include:

  • Primary and secondary logo marks

  • Color systems inspired by warmth and celebration

  • Brand patterns and visual textures

  • Typography designed for readability and character

Together these elements create a cohesive identity that can extend across packaging, digital platforms, and marketing materials.


Packaging System

A flexible packaging system was developed to support multiple teas while maintaining a consistent brand presence.

Features include:

  • Clear product naming structure

  • Color differentiation between teas

  • Ingredient and origin storytelling

  • Scalable label design for future SKUs

The packaging balances visual impact with clarity, ensuring products stand out while communicating essential information.

The initial launch collection includes teas inspired by African and diasporan traditions, including:

Black Is Beautiful: Single source black teas from Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique and Rwanda

Chai Me A River: Tanzanian Chai

Secure The Bag: Luxurious Caribbean cocoa tea

Each blend celebrates cultural tea traditions while offering a modern interpretation for today’s tea drinkers.
