Raclin Murphy Museum of Art Inaugural Gala

Event Identity & Print Design

The Raclin Murphy Museum of Art Inaugural Gala marked the opening of the Raclin Murphy Museum of Art at the University of Notre Dame — a landmark cultural moment celebrating the launch of a new, world-class arts institution.

Jairosi Graphic Design was commissioned to develop a cohesive suite of printed materials for the event, translating the museum’s artistic identity into an elegant and immersive guest experience.

The Challenge

The goal was to design event materials that:

  • Reflected the prestige and significance of the museum’s opening

  • Aligned with the museum’s artistic vision

  • Felt refined, intentional, and collectible

  • Created a cohesive visual experience across all printed touchpoints

The materials needed to resonate with a distinguished audience while honoring the artistic foundation of the space itself.

The Approach

The design direction was rooted in the museum’s own collection and architectural storytelling.

Inspiration was drawn from the hand-crafted mosaic in the Mary, Queen of Chapels space, created by acclaimed Italian artist Mimmo Paladino. The mural’s textures, forms, and symbolic elements informed a visual language that felt both historic and contemporary.

Select motifs and compositional elements from the mosaic were abstracted and carried across all materials, creating a cohesive system that subtly connected the event to the museum’s artistic identity.

Event Materials

A refined suite of print materials was designed to guide and elevate the guest experience:

  • Formal invitation design

  • RSVP insert and response materials

  • Custom envelope system

  • Menu card for the gala evening

  • Printed map guiding guests to the venue

Each piece was designed to feel intentional and tactile, reinforcing the sense of occasion from the moment the invitation was received through the event itself.

Design System

The visual system balanced artistic inspiration with clarity and elegance.

Key considerations included:

  • Translating fine art references into functional design

  • Maintaining legibility and hierarchy across all pieces

  • Creating continuity across multiple formats and sizes

  • Ensuring materials felt cohesive when experienced together

The result was a collection of pieces that felt both curated and unified, enhancing the overall experience of the event.

Outcome

The final materials supported a seamless and elevated guest journey, from invitation to arrival.

The design system:

  • Reinforced the museum’s identity through thoughtful visual references

  • Contributed to a polished and memorable event experience

  • Aligned with the prestige of a major university and cultural institution
