The Alba

Brand Identity & Hospitality Design

The Alba is a luxury fine dining restaurant experience set aboard a floating vessel, originally launched at Cape Town’s iconic waterfront.

Designed as a first-of-its-kind concept in the city, the restaurant offers a multi-course dining experience while cruising through the harbour, combining hospitality, architecture, and atmosphere into a single immersive experience.

As part of the creative team at Tourvest in Cape Town, Rutendo Jairosi of Jairosi Graphic Design contributed to shaping the visual identity and guest experience through brand and menu design.

The Challenge

The goal was to develop a visual identity that:

  • Reflected the luxury and uniqueness of a floating restaurant

  • Aligned with a high-end hospitality experience

  • Felt elegant, refined, and internationally competitive

  • Translated seamlessly across menus and guest touchpoints

The design needed to complement an environment defined by movement, atmosphere, and panoramic views, while remaining clear and functional.

The Approach

The design approach focused on creating a brand identity that felt timeless, minimal, and sophisticated.

Given the richness of the physical environment — glass walls, ocean views, and a curated dining experience — the visual system was intentionally restrained, allowing the setting itself to remain the focal point.

Typography, layout, and spacing were used to communicate elegance, while maintaining clarity for guests navigating a multi-course dining experience.

Brand & Menu Design

A focused set of core brand materials was developed, including:

  • Logo design and foundational identity

  • Menu design for onboard dining experience

  • Supporting visual language for guest-facing materials

The menu design played a central role in the experience, balancing readability with refinement — ensuring that each course felt curated and aligned with the overall atmosphere.

Design Considerations

The visual system was developed with hospitality experience in mind:

  • Ensuring legibility in varying lighting conditions on the water

  • Creating a tactile, premium feel through layout and composition

  • Aligning the brand with international fine dining standards

  • Maintaining consistency across all guest touchpoints

The result was a brand that felt both elevated and understated, complementing the experience rather than competing with it.

Outcome

The final identity contributed to a cohesive and polished dining experience aboard the vessel.

The work supported:

  • A refined and recognizable brand presence

  • A seamless guest experience from arrival through dining

  • Alignment between visual identity and luxury positioning
